A comparison of the various activities on different OS devices reveals the following :

  • Blackberry users spend a higher proportion of their time on voice calls & messaging compared to other OS users
  • Browsing accounts for a higher percentage of active time in Symbian & Windows Mobile OS
  • Usage of Call apps, Social Networking apps & Screen Enhancement apps is higher on Android devices
  • Gaming usage is high in Windows mobile handsets while Media Player is more often used in Symbian phones

Time Management Apps (Calendar, Alarm Manager etc) ,Office Apps, Settings have high reach but are not engaging (low duration ) & are used less frequently (low sessions) indicating that there is a scope to enhance app experience.

Games-Card, Puzzle, Action ; Radio Apps & Calculators are high on reach & duration but low on sessions - again app usage experience needs to be improved so that frequency of visits is high.

Screen Enhancement apps are high on duration-need to work on generating reach.

Bluetooth Apps have high reach & sessions but are not used for long duration while Mobile payment apps (ngpay, bookmyshow) are used very frequently but by lesser people for short duration-need to popularise these apps & make it more user friendly.

Native apps like Call, SMS, Camera, Media Player, Gallery, Phonebook & Social networking apps are high on all three attributes- need to introduce more user friendly apps within these categories.

Browsing commands highest share of time spent- more than calls & messaging put together. Entertainment (comprising media player, gallery, online video sharing, games, radio, camera) as a category has a sizeable share. Infact, Symbian users spend more time on media player than messaging.
